Digitevent is a web-based solution that runs on Android, iOS, and Windows. So which tablets should you choose, and where should you get them? Is it better to buy or rent? Following the many questions we've received on this topic, we asked for the expertise of Jonathan Astruc, co-founder of Handyamo, our favorite tablet rental company, and put our questions to him. Here are his best tips!
Who do you work with, and for what kinds of events?
Since 2011, we've helped run several hundred professional events involving tablets, which has let us build real expertise and identify best practices. We take an active role and help our clients design the "tablets" part of their event, from content integration through to deployment on the day itself. We try to bring fresh, surprising ideas for interactive seminars, treasure hunts, or game kiosks at trade shows.
What should you keep in mind when using tablets for your events?
In events, hardware should be dedicated solely to the event. If the user experience isn't optimal, you risk losing attendees along the way. You must avoid at all costs being interrupted during an event by inappropriate notifications (email, Facebook, etc.), or worse, a sudden device update! That's why it's often risky to use and rely on employees' own devices. So if you organize fewer than about fifteen events a year, renting will give you unmatched reliability and flexibility.
Can you give us 3 strengths of renting from Handyamo?
- We spare clients the logistical hassle
Tablets are delivered no later than the day before the event, anywhere in France. They arrive protected, in cases, ready to use, charged and configured. After the event, all you have to do is put the tablets back in their original packaging before the courier picks them up. - We optimize device settings for the event
Our top priority is optimizing the user experience during the event. For example, for a Digitevent setup, our clients get an up-to-date Google Chrome app, a custom wallpaper, an icon already created on the desktop, an optimized keyboard and sleep timer, and so on. The tool is perfectly suited to the use case! These advanced settings are only possible on certain touch tablet models. That's why we tend to recommend Android for events, since the operating system is much more open and flexible for organizers. This choice led us to enter an advanced partnership with Samsung back in 2011, to surface best practices, stay alert to new features, and offer the best possible service! - We have a fleet of several hundred tablets and accessories to meet everyone's needs
Renting brings flexibility in terms of quantity, especially when needs vary from one event to another. To make sure you always use high-performing tablets in an event context where staying current matters, we offer up to 300 latest-generation devices (currently Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, 10.1" or 8"). We also offer a wide range of accessories for rent: hand straps for your reception staff, interactive kiosks for trade shows, and external batteries.
